Update on “Daddy School.” The kids, so far, are diggin’ it. I think J was a little skeptical at first, but after the first day, he seems to be coming around. First day was working on writing skills. Now, for all you homeschoolers out there, let me be frank (Frank?). This is purely an experiment, more like “tinkering” w/ homeschooling. I know there’s curriculum out there, and a certain eb-n-flo about it. My main goal is to prevent the “I’m boooooooooooooored” from creeping in. I’ve already stated (mostly to J) that under no certain terms am I to hear that dreaded summer time curse, even if the moment lends itself.
BUT, having said that, if you happen to have some ideas on curriculum, sites to check out, projects, etc. let me know- I’m totally “shootin’ from the seat of my pants” at the moment! Currently we are looking to do some gardening, maybe check out some history lessons re: WWII, the Vietnam War (Grandpa’s & Great Grandpa’s from both sides) & the origins of the video game, letter writing, a video play, and HTML for J. We’ll keep ya posted on the progress!

OOh, Kevin. Get to the library as often as possible. Total stimulation. Get J some books on cartooning and stuff that he’s interested in, etc. Books on tape for Soph. The library was one of our favorite places to hang out in the summer.
Thanks Les! Aaaah, yes the forgotten library. I took J there for his class project on Roald Dahl- he was like in 7th heaven! Soph is gettin’ to the age where I think she’d dig it too, but might have a hard time keeping quiet for very long.
Kevin, for all kinds of ideas..andit may make youe head pop, go to christian book distributors, and hit their homeschool section. Every families needs are unique and each ones learning styles vary, but there you can sample all thats out there. There is a study called “five in a Row” thats uses literature and is great for different ages, I am looking into a history series by a historian, writer and speaker, Diane Waring….at this point whatever shows learning is fun….go with it!!!
There just so happens to be a pretty cool christian bookstore not too far from here. I’d been thinkin’ about maybe incorporating some of the VeggieTales stories, as we’re pretty well versed in those. Been wantin’ to talk more about the stuff we’d learned in school, like King Tut and all the ancient Egyptian history and discussing how the timeframe that the Bible covers overlap each other.
